2023- Schulenberg

Wheelin’ Thru Texas

69th Texas Tour 2023

Exploring the Schulenburg Area

with AACA Golden Crescent Region

May 18-May 21, 2023

On behalf of the Antique Automobile Club of America – Golden Crescent Region,  I would like to invite you to attend this year’s Texas Tour in Schulenberg,  Texas. Our plan is to have a weekend of fun driving adventures as we share  our mutual hobby. We want to encourage all to join in. We have built in time  for visiting, relaxing, games, and shopping, hopefully something for everyone.

Thursday Mary 18 – Registration will open around one o’clock in the host hotel, and  early bird tours will be provided to some of the local attractions. The Welcome Party will be provided in the park.

Friday May 19 – We will start the day off with car judging and a ladies’ event and  then off to our planned tour to see a local car collection and have lunch. We will visit  one or more painted churches that date back to late 1800’s early 1900’s. The evening banquet will be at Sengelmann’s for some German food, along with a Hobo band.  Should be quite an interesting evening.

Saturday May 20 – We will tour more of the back roads to Round Top, a unique  small town with many attractions, such as Festival Hill and antique and art galleries  for everyone to explore. Lunch will be on your own. The closing banquet with awards will be held at Senglemann’s.

Sunday May 21 – We say our goodbyes until the next Texas Tour.

We hope that you will join us on this Wheelin Thru Texas Tour Your Tour Host,

2021- Paris

Dear Fellow AACA member, past Tour participant, and/ or car enthusiast-

Greetings from the Texas Region! We hope that you are all doing well during these unusual times. As you may recall, the Gulf Coast Region AACA faced unprecedented challenges last May for the Tour in Brenham and again this spring. With that, they reached out to the other clubs to assist. In an effort to keep the Tour going, the Texas Region is stepping in to continue this proud tradition, even if slightly abbreviated. The sponsoring clubs all met to discuss this possibility exactly two weeks ago. The clubs themselves are still in active rotation for this Tour and the spots going forward have not changed.

While we had 2 years to plan the 2018 Tour in Nacogdoches, we have a little quicker time frame for this Tour and some things are still closed up here in North Texas. We hope that participants understand that and still have fun on the Tour. We’ve driven 455 miles total the last two weekends running potential routes with more ideas to flesh out in the coming weeks.

With that being said the 67th Annual Texas Tour. will be taking place May 13-16, 2021, in Paris, Texas for the first time since 2006 when HHCA sponsored the Tour.

In an effort to streamline the Tour, the normal car judging events will not be taking place this year.. However, all standard rotating trophies will still be awarded. Our emphasis will be on driving the cars, seeing old friends, and making new ones!

Due to the shorter time frame, registration is preferred to be done online by clicking  HERE and sending your payment via PayPal. If not, please send us an email and let us know you are mailing it in. Everything is due May 1, 2021.

There will be no formal class judging at this year’s tour. There will be a small team of judges who will view all cars registered for the tour weekend so that the Texas Tour revolving trophies and mementos can be presented on Saturday evening. That has enabled us to plan two full days of driving tours through the Texas Hill Country. We’ll spend a full day at the YO Ranch, and a short visit to the LBJ Ranch, the old town of Comfort, the James Avery factory, and Luckenbach where everybody is somebody.

We have planned our tours and routes so that there is sufficient time for all activities without being rushed. None of our routes will ever require a speed greater than 45 miles per hour. Try it at this speed and you will be surprised at what you will SEE that you never saw before. This is how we arrived at the theme for this year’s tour, a Sunday drive.

We ask that you bring with you or cause a registration to be submitted by one or more people who have never before attended a Texas Tour and who are younger than you are. We encourage you to do this to ensure the survival of the Texas Tour for future generations.

We will be conducting a silent auction during this year’s Texas Tour to benefit Fisher House. This facility provides rent free home-like accommodations for military families (primarily the lower enlisted grades) who cannot afford the cost of food and housing while they try to stay in close proximity to their loved one in hospital care. There are multiple home sites in San Antonio. Please visit their web site for more information, look on the internet at https://fisherhouse.org/. We like to keep our donation funds near home, so we plan to place our donation directly with the Fisher House facilities in San Antonio. If you have items that would sell to a group like ours and you would like to donate that item or items for our auction, then please bring your item(s) with you. We would be very happy to include your donations in our auction. An auction doesn’t work unless it has interested buyers. Please be generous and come prepared to find one or more items in our auction that you can’t live without. The Fisher House organization can make good use of our donation.

We have had an unusual opportunity to visit an eclectic collection of early vintage cars and trucks owned by one of our acquaintances who has been involved in the old car hobby for many years and who has rescued numerous old vehicles from the scrappers and made them available for future generations. We have an opportunity to pay a visit to see this unusual collection and have planned it for Thursday afternoon. We are offering this short, early birds tour starting around 1:00 PM Thursday afternoon. This tour would be ideal for the very early cars traveling at very slow speeds. Please bring one of these early cars if you can. We will credit the very early cars and drivers for having driven on the Texas Tour if they will participate in the early birds tour. For everyone else, if you are able to arrive here before lunch on Thursday, May 16th, then you should plan to make this “added attraction” tour with us.

An Early Bird get together is scheduled for Thursday evening at the poolside patio of the host hotel. This has historically been a very important time for renewing acquaintances with friends from past tours and for making friends with new people attending. Please try to arrive in time for this event starting around 5:30pm.

This year, your Friday driving tour is expanded into a full day adventure. The Friday tour includes an interesting drive and visit to Comfort, “The most original 19th Century Business District in Texas,” followed by lunch in Luckenbach where “everybody is somebody,” then on to the LBJ Ranch and National Park, followed by a comfort stop in Fredericksburg, and then back to the hotel. Friday concludes with dinner and entertainment in the hotel. This would be the ideal time for you to present yourself in vintage attire.

Saturday’s tour will take us along a route paralleling the scenic Guadalupe River to Mountain Home, Texas, and the YO Ranch where we will be entertained by cowboy musicians, play cowboy games, take an open air bus ride through this ranch of exotic animals and Texas Longhorn cattle, and enjoy a barbeque lunch before continuing our driving tour. The return trip will take us through more Texas hill country and a stop at the James Avery Jewelry Factory (which includes a potty stop) on the way back to the hotel. Saturday concludes with dinner and entertainment in the hotel, followed by awards of the Texas Tour revolving trophies and other special awards.

We wrap-up on Sunday morning with a leisurely breakfast in the hotel and departure for home. The Texas Tour business meeting will follow breakfast and be conducted in a location to be announced. Each club in the tour rotation should be represented at this business session. Any participant in the tour who is a member of a club that is not already in the rotation for hosting the Texas Tour, may attend this meeting, and consider making a campaign for their own club to join the rotation and host a Texas Tour in the future.
